Is there an option to search or find words or text , then replace it with a word or other text. Microsoft word has this option. Does Adobe Acrobat? I have a PDF document which is 1500 pages long, and I want to remove one company name and replace it with another. Is there a way I can do this without visiting each and ever page in this document?

Uhh, what if one does not have the original source doc?? Or, as in my case, the documents are ONLY available in PDF format.
Pat, if you have Acrobat 8 you can do what you want as far as changing all occurances of the company name. I just did this on a long document I had using the new "Redaction" feature. You start by doing a Search for the word you want to change, i.e. the company name. The Search box will list all occurances of the name. At the top of the search box select "check all", and at the bottom check "Mark Checked Results For Redaction".
In the Redaction properties/Appearance check the "Use Overlay text" box. Below that select "custom text" and enter in the new company name. You can then select "Apply Redactions" and bingo! All the company names are changed in the document to the new name.
I had wanted this type of feature for years as I deal with some confidential documents that I need to remove information from before I pass them along. The Redaction feature does just that.
Mm1, nice find. Although it's not a true find and replace tool in this context. Make sure to select 'no fill colour' and select the proper font and size.
It can do a good job replacing text provided the doucment doesn't use to many different fonts and colours and sizes. So watch out for that whne marking your selections.

Then I would say that you have a restricted document management system. Your redaction tip is clever, however.
I have a paper document which I scan to PDF. I then run OCR on it, the OCR engine makes some mistakes. I want to correct these but I dont want to output the document as formatted text and graphics. I need to fix the OCR mistakes in the hidden OCR layer.
Is this possible?

Bob.
So far as I know, not with Acrobat's plug-in OCR. You'll really need proper OCR software like Abbyy Finereader, ReadIris, or whatever.
Thanks Steve, thats very helpful.

Bob.
....ps.
There may not be much in it for a good quality original, but its probably better to start from a multipage tif file than a pdf if you have the option.
de Siem, good points on the font & size, fill color. I found that out while experimenting with changing some other text. For what I have to change, just one line, it is always the same font size & color which makes it a breeze.
MarkATS, the documents I am modifying come from outside sources and have a business name on them. Being that they are not copyright materials there is no issues with altering them in that respect. What a time saver it has been though, it's nice to watch hundreds of pages change at the touch of a button or two!
