Solid black fill not printing solid black on Docutech
Hello,
We are having problems with any EPS file that has a solid black fill printing solid black on a docutech printer. The printed image is gray with a visible screen.
I am using FrameMaker 7.1 as my source, EPS files were done in Adobe Illustrator 9.0 or later.
The only solution I have found so far is printing to PS first - then distilling to PDF. Printing directly to Adobe PDF driver seems to be the problem. We used to have a Distiller print driver - but that seems to have disappeared after Acrobat 5.0 ...
Is there another solution ?
Thank you,
Tina

Re: Solid black fill not printing solid black on Docutech
Tina, the answer is specific to FrameMaker, as the creator of the PDF, rather than to Acrobat.
Please post again on the FM section, being sure to post the specific version of FM (from Help > About) and Acrobat you're using, and also describe the steps you follow when you "[print] directly to the PDF driver".

Re: Solid black fill not printing solid black on Docutech
I posted the above issue in the FrameMaker forum - but thinking about it a bit more, I'm not so sure it is a FrameMaker issue. We never had this problem with Acrobat 5.0. - only with Acrobat 7.0 and 8.0.
Files converted to PDF from PageMaker 6.5 (and Word for that matter)also have the same problem -after installing Acrobat 7.0.
To convert to PDF I would simply select the Acrobat PDF Print Driver in the Print Dialogue Box.
Maybe it's something in the Acrobat preferences?
Under the colour settings we left the default settings :
Convert All Colours to CMYK - hmmm ...maybe this should be 'Leave Colour Unchanged'?
Dot Gain is 20%
Anyway, I can continue printing to PS first - I just thought there might be a simpler solution that wouldn't involve the extra step.
I'll adjust the settings - and work with our Printing agency and see if we find an answer that way.
Thanks anyway,
Tina

Re: Solid black fill not printing solid black on Docutech
If you print to the adobe pdf printer without creating a PS file first, the conversion process will always use the default distiller joboptions (standard) which converts colours to RGB.
To set the correct setting you need to go into the properties of the Adobe PDF printer (instead of Distiller) and set the correct options there. (Start>printers and faxes>adobe PDF printer; right-click and select printing preferences)
