If you want really slow motion, you'll need to film it with a camera that you can change the frame rate.. Otherwise, it'll look jumpy, because there's not enough frames.. Timewarp can create inbetween frames. There's also a couple of plugins, but they're quite expensive. Realviz Retimer, and I think Foundry makes one - checkout www.toolfarm.com

For timeremap - select your layer, apply timeremap. See the keyframes? That tells it to play that frame of your video at the time in your timeline. It defaults to the full length of the clip. Move the end keyframe closer to the beginning, and it'll speed up the clip. Move it further away, and it'll slow it down. You can also use held keyframes and you can also change your keyframes to ease in/out.

Timeremap is a FANTASTIC "effect". I use it just about everyday. That's how I do lipsync on my animated characters.

    Steven,

A really good place to study and get help for slomo, is revisioneffects.com. They have a smart deinterlacer with which you can improve your final results. It's tricky, but as David says, you need more frames, and this is a good way to get them. Use this with or without Twixtor, which is one of the more expensive tools, also at revisioneffects.

I have used their deinterlacer in tandem with AE's time remapping and got pretty darn good results, I slowed down a Miguel Batista pitch to about 2 seconds, you could see the ball all the way to the plate.
