Image Lets Go of Particles? I want to move a layer around and have it trail particles the color of the portion of the layer the particle is emitted from.
I've tried a bunch of methods, I'm on Particular now.
It sounds easy to do if the source was a point or a light or a cube ... but the moment you say you want the particles coming from a Layer, you can't move the layer around any more... and so the look of "Trailing Particles" can't be created.
So I tried using a Light as an emitter and the particle was the whole frame itself and the frame turned on and off pixels randomly so that I wasn't getting a smear effect - but I can't even get the particles to generate from the same position in space consistently - instead of aligned, stacking particles the size of a full frame, I get the frames being plopped down here, there, all around the square, willy nilly.
Ideas? Tutorial page out there?

Re: Image Lets Go of Particles? Also - the Particular particles always face and orient to Camera, so that ruins the effect even if I could figure out the random placement quirk - though there are no Random values set and most everything is set to Zero.
Think Alka Seltzer dissolving up into water..

Re: Image Lets Go of Particles? I don't have any problems getting Particular particles to emit from a moving layer. It's floor and wall layers that can't move.

I agree - I've done this before so imagine my surprise when I couldn't get things to move.
So - I came in this morning, all fresh - restarted - and now... now it works.
I'd love to blame the computer but I'm sure the problem was between the keyboard and the chair.

No reason to blame the computer. AE has some weird quirks these days. I am not surprised at all that it suddenly started to work.
I always start the day with an incremental save of active projects, renaming them and starting fresh.
