This is a discussion on After Effects can't continue: sorry. within the Adobe After Effects forums in Adobe Tools category; Hi, Whenever I try to load After Effects 7 (try-out) I get the following message: "After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. See www.adobe.com/support/products/aftereffects.html for known issues. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2). | Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem, but with After Effects 6.5, It was running without any problem, suddenly one day I get this error when starting After Effects: "After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. See www.adobe.com/support/products/aftereffects.html for known issues. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2). (0::42)" I tried numerous suggestions from this forum like: 1. removing non-standard plug-ins 2. removing the openGL3D extensions 3. removing the preference file of After Effects 4. updating to AE 6.5.1 5. installing Quicktime 7.0 6. removing all true type fonts except windows installed 7. uninstall en re-install After Effects entirely etc. Nothing works! What the hell is going on? I know for sure that my graphic card etc. are ok, because it was running properly before. Please help us if you've got any ideas! |

I have no idea what the hell could be wrong... I think only the Adobe guys would be able to helps us right now, but I can't find a link to report them this issue. Apparently, this forum is all we have. Don't you think it has something to do with video drivers? I have the Catalyst 6.2 wich was released back in february. All the newer driver simply doesn't work. I'm starting to get desperate...I have 30 seconds of animation to deliver within 2 months. I'll try to update my video drivers and see if it works. Thanxs

Hee, I just tried exactly the same, I updated my graphic card driver (NVidia GeForce 6600 GT), but still the same freaking error. I just don't get it, on this forum there are several topics on this (0::42) error and every single user has an other solution, but they all don't work for me and you. I'm out of suggestions too I'm afraid.... Good luck! Thanx

Guys, Sorry to hear you're having problems. You should contact Adobe's support, either via <http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/> or via telephone (you'll find the number for your country at the same link.) - Jonas Hummelstrand <http://generalspecialist.com/>

Okay, I got it! When you get the error, does the detailed errorreport look like this: AppName: afterfx.exe AppVer: 6.5.128.7 ModName: ffdshow.ax ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 00059caf If it does (I hope for you) then: - Deinstall ffdshow (video codec pack) - Then search in explorer at ffdshow.ax on your C: drive (It probably shows up at C:/WINDOWS/system32) - Delete the file ffdshow.ax - Restart After Effects and your in business again! Good luck!

Hi, When you get your 'splash screen' (when it crashes), it looks something like this <https://devar.washington.edu/departments/im/helpdesk/manuals/workstation/Images/dont_send.jpg> right? With the sentence: To see what data this error report contains, click here. Click on 'click here', then you get a screen like this <http://jalbum.net/forum/servlet/JiveServlet/download/21-7635-70113-1171/error%20report2%20from%20firefox.gif> The file which says ModName: is probably the file causing problems (in this example npswf32.dll) Search for this file and delete it! Good luck!

I would suggest that you look into what additional programs or hardware you have installed recently. Did you add a codec? One final thing and this should be a FIRST resort... hold down [ctrl] key from when you double click the icon to open after effects until it loads completely.
