sincejan63,

I'm sorry you've had such trouble with Adobe products. I'm really interested in writing programs that work, and we spend a ton of money and time testing things. Have you called technical support? That's our official support arm and are much better at troubleshooting system issues. They also generate reports across the products and allow us to track down issues that may be caused by shared components, as yours sounds it may be.

Before you rush out and buy new hardware (after all, we don't know what hardware you're using currently) you should consider creating a web support case, or calling Adobe Technical Support. Getting you installed properly is always a free support call.

Here's a short video on creating a web case, if you're unfamiliar with the process:

What I don;t understand is here I am upgrading to CS4 with all my programs working, no problem, then all of a sudden of all the new programs Flash and After effects won;t launch. So Now I am told to re-format my hard drive (36 Hours) by someone who does not know what kind of income that would zap out of my earnings. I refuse to do that, we build websites, edit videos and do programming here and it's better to go out ad buy a new machine that to blank my system because some dude on the forum says so. This happaned in the last upgrade and I bit the bullet but this time I am not going to play adobe's upgrade game. Dreamweaver launches but all the flash content is useless as there is no flash to edit my client's files-- Premier pro works but after effects does not so all the edits can;t be done. It's downright sleezy and the blame rests on Adobe. My system is NOT corrupt nor broken as was suggested, I wish I know why but I would go on no more with this nonsense from Adobe and it's Forumers, like I said I've got bills to pay and kids to support. Once again thanks for your concern, I've invested $799.00 in a new spanking Machine and like last pgrade the programs would work until CS5 which I expect to fail.

sincejan63, it sounds like you are really frustrated by the responses you have gotten in the forum.

Who told you to reformat your hard drive? You state: "some dude on the forum says so". If that's the case, please remember these are the User to User forums, not an Adobe support forum. We chip in here and there, but we do not moderate every post and fact check it. That is what the official support system is for. Please open a support case so people who troubleshoot for a living can help you out.

Just had this problem and finally solved it. After Effects and Flash wouldn't start up with AE complaining that it was "unable to create font". After a lot of research on the web I gave the following a try ... and it worked beautifully. Seems some of my fonts had become unregistered and all I needed to do was re-register them, which can be done completely from within Vista. Here are the instructions I followed:

> 1) Goto to Control Panel --> Fonts
> 2) Right-click anywhere where the fonts are listed and select Install Font
> 3) Select C:\Windows\Fonts and select all
> 4) Select install
> 5) You'll to click a LOT of confirmation boxes, I think the button said "yes", but it's worth it. Just staaart clickin.

This re-registered all my fonts even though they were already installed, and solved my problem.

Good luck!

This absolutely works!

I have searched and searched for a solution for almost a year and I was just about to do a reformat/reinstall!

I feel really bad for those that have already reformatted their systems. Although, I'm not sure why that solution wouldn't have worked. I thought everything (including fonts) would be registered on the new format? Apparently not.

Regardless, I thank you for sharing a solution. Such an easy and very economical solution it is! Now I have Flash/After Effects.

This one didn't work for me. I'm on XP and Adobe CS4 also shows up the "unable to load font" and then exits the application.

When I tried that thing you said on the Control Panel> Fonts, it didnt work. BUT when i right clicked Adobe After Effects icon and then clicked Properties>Compatibility, I checked "disable visual themes" on the Display settings and then checked "Turn off advanced text services for this program".

After that, After Effects loaded swiftly the normal way!

I hope this one serves the others who have problems with the "unable to load font" problem.
