Hi I just wanted to know if i were to design a site in 8 bit, would i be able to easily convert to 32 bit colors? Or if it was a 32 bit psd, what would the color difference be to the naked eye if i "downgrade" it to 8 bit through photoshop settings? I'm just worried that if the client has 32bit colors images, then it wouldnt be able to look as good if i place them in my 8bit file. One of the client's requirements for this web project is 32 bit colors. So i'm really kinda stumped on this. 32 bit is running too slow on my computer. Besides what i've understand from searching online is that it applies more for photos? Can someone advise me? Thank you very much in advance.

There's confusion over the definition of terms here. When referring to the bit depth of an image, it's usually stated in "bits per channel" (bpc) 8 bits = 8bpc 16 bits = 16bpc 32 bits = 32bpc For an RGB image, 8bpc would yield a 24 bit image (8bpc X 3 channels) For a CMYK image, 8bpc would yield a 32 bit image (8bpc X 4 channels) I would guess your client is asking for 8bpc images. Their confusion comes from hearing that CMYK images are 32 bit files. (I'd venture to say that they work a lot with CMYK...) Al images bound for the internet should be 8bpc. The only current use for 32bpc files is HDR. Engage in a little client education. They'll appreciate it. Hope that helps.

Danielle, What application are you using? Go to the forum index and post in the applicable forum for your application (Adobe Firworks, or whatever) and platform (Macintosh or Windows).
