Bare with me as I'm a relative newbie to FrameMaker (8), but have used PageMaker for many years. I am having a problem when trying to save a FrameMaker 8 file as a PDF. It converts to pdf (Acrobat 7/Reader 8) excellently, but displays a 'A number out of range' message when opening the pdf. The FrameMaker file is a 2-page file that does not have page numbers, but I'm asking the pdf to open on page 1. I guess this is why the message is displayed, but I cannot cure this problem because if I try not to enter an 'Open at page number' in the PDF Setup dialog another message appears saying 'don't be so stupid I need a page number'. Actually, it doesn't say that, but it does say 'Incorrect page number'. Can anyone help me out ?

Sean, When you specify the page on which to open in the PDF setup dialog box, you need to specify the number its format, for example, if the first page is numbered with Roman numerals, then you specify the page number as i, not 1. I realize that you have no page numbers but you really do; they are just not being displayed. So, in your document select Format > Document > Numbering. Then in the Page tab make sure the first page is 1, Arabic, not Roman or anything else. I am guessing your template has a default value and format for the first page number. Van

Thanks for getting back to me, after I posted such a vague topic subject. I have done as you suggested, basically make sure that the PDF Setup and page number formats correspond, but it is still displaying the 'number out of range' message when the PDF opens. Any other ideas ?

Thank you for interest in this problem, but I have resolved it myself by copying and pasting each page into a new blank FrameMaker landscape template file. This seems to have cured the problem. I guess I must have broken something in the master/reference pages or something. Many thanks
