FrameMaker not resolving Paths

I am having problems with FrameMaker's ability to "Update Document To use New Path" on a consistent basis.

Our FrameMaker documents pull graphics from multiple directories and I fully expected each file, when opened after the move, to ask for missing files. What I didn't expect was that it would ask for every image even though they are all located in the same directory!

I have read the post about tossing everything in one directory with the FrameMaker file itself but this is not an option since we have strict policies against this.

Some of the FrameMaker documents do resolve the pathing issue after selecting the new path for the first instance of a missing graphics image, thus automatically remapping the rest; which is what is expected. What confuses me is that some FrameMaker documents wont, rather I am forced to identify the same Directory (same UNC server path etc.) for every image in the file as though FrameMaker has no recollection of what I previously told it.

Ideas?

What specific version of FM (from Help About, the "pxxx" numbers), on what platform?

I get the same results in 7.2 build p158 and 8.0 build p273.
