Keyboard commands have stopped working - Adobe illustrator

Certain scheduled programs running in the background can lock the keys in other programs. The most common culprit, though is Entourage and MS Office. Get the latest update for them, it usually fixes the problem. But, there are other programs that cause this as well.

Does anybody have any idea what other bg programs can cause this? I'm having the same problem with Illustrator CS2. I had a trial of MS Office, but uninstalled it. I tried deleting my Illustrator prefs, I updated Illustrator to 12.0.1, and I checked my keyboard input settings in System Preferences. I can post a copy of my Top list, if anybody thinks they can look at it and tell my if any programs are interfering.

Instead of just trashing the Illustrator preference file rash the whole Illustrator Settings folder and the com.adobe.illustrator.plist also in the Users Preferences folder.

Then make certain that you trash the preferences for that MS Office trial you installed, that is very important and if the is a com.microsoft.office.plist as well. If there is anything that says entourage in the preference folder that has to go as well. Including com.microsoft.Entourage.plist. Maybe this as well OfficeSync Prefs.

This might not be necessary but you can also if need be move this file to the desktop and restart the computer. com.apple.finder.plist but don't trash it you might want to put it back but if you put it back you have to restart the computer.

If you remove the last item you have to set up your profiles etc.

After being on the phone with Adobe for an hour, this is the fix that worked for me.
On a mac, go to system preferences>international>input menu. Once the dialog box is in input menu, scroll down until you see U.S. and U.S. Extended. Make sure ONLY U.S. IS CHECKED. I now have all of my keyboard commands back!

Yes, DC, that is one of the other known fixes. Sorry you had to be on the phone for an hour.

I'm using different keyboards, usually hungarian.
Just switching the keyboards worked fine for me.

I'm having a similar problem, but with Illustrator and Photoshop. I have removed the prefs for everything Adobe, except for anything in Application support, restarted and everything was fine. However, when I launched Quark, switched back to Illustrator (CS2 by the way) the problem reoccured! It is only effecting my option, apple and space bar and only when I try and use them for a shortcut to a tool (Hand tool - space, zoom - space+apple etc....) When I try and copy paste, no problems. Please if anybody can help, I am completely baffled by this!!
I work in a French environment, so changing my keyboard to U.S. is not an option, unfortunately

I just installed adode creative suite 2 and it seemed to go ok. however everytime i open Illustrator and perform certain commands the program "unexpectedly quits" i noticed it is when i do a "command v" to paste an object..it just quits. i cannot have it open for more than 3 min without somethign causing it to crash. i have uninstalled and reinstalled already and i get the same problem..any ideas?
