Clean up a Logo?

  1. Default Clean up a Logo?

    Hello,

    I have a logo that my dad would like for me to clean up so they can put it on menu and so on.

    How can I clean this logo up so it is not pixilated and blurry. I know you can do it in illustrator but i don't know HOW to do it?

    here is the logo that I am talking about;

    Thanks,

    The .gif is a bitmap file, probably at a very low resolution ( 72 - 96 ppi ). You can try AlienSkin's "Image Doctor" that helps remove artifacts and improves overall quality. AS also has a new application called "BlowUp" that is useful for enlarging low res images. I prefer to use Image Doctor first and then "Genuine Fractals" to enlarge low res images. Ideally, you'd probably want to remove defects and then enlarge the image at least 400% @ 300ppi. You could then use CS2's AutoTrace feature to redraw the logo into vector format ( or redraw it manually using the enlarged bitmap as a template ). Either way, the logo will be more flexible as a vector file where you can colorize it either CMYK or Spot Colors and scale it to whatever size you need it to be.

    But i have the original file in a tif format. I didn't want to up load since it is a pretty big file especially for online. Wat suggestions do you have for that?

    Live Trace works fine on tiff images.

    However, I would recommend using Live Trace on the "Brothers" only. You will get better results on the rest by finding a compatible font and using actual text for the "Restaurant & Deli" and the "Fast and Fresh Since 1988". Tracing text images seldom gives very satisfactory results except on very large text like the Brothers part.

    Wat settings do you think would work well for the big Brothers part?

    thanks,

    The preset Black and white logo from the Live Trace Options dialog the first drop down menu in the upper left section

    Wade and Teri have it right. I cannot see the logo on my machine, so I assumed you were stuck with the .gif, but I'd approach it much the same way Teri explained it.

    Looks like the "Brothers" part would be a great exercise in learning how to manually trace shapes using the pen. Not too difficult, but not dead simple, either.

    Yeah, you could probably do OK using Live Trace on it, but that method isn't going to be possible on every project you run across. If you plan on continuing to use and get good at Ilustrator, sooner or later using the Pen Tools is something you'll have to learn.

    This is a good one to start learning on, especially since you have decently high pixel dimensions to start with.
