Cut Contour in Illustrator CS2 Help!

  1. Default Cut Contour in Illustrator CS2 Help!

I have the cut contour saved in the color palette and it is light grey. When I imported a vector file, selected it to cut edges around it changed all outlines to that grey color. I sent it to Versaworks and the Roland printer but it only changed that print and did not cut. If somone is familiar with cut contour in CS2 please help.

I have no idea what you are describing. It sounds like you clicked on a colour in the Swatches palette and your selection changed colour. That's exactly what's supposed to happen.

When you saved it as an EPS I bet Adobe Illustrator warned you about
something to do with transparencies outside out Illustrator?

I had the same problem and here is my take on the subject. When Versaworks
rips the file it turns it into a raster file to print. While its doing this
it looks for paths with a color called CutContour these paths are turned
into the cut path. If you have a transparency, Versaworks somehow
rasterizes the CutContour path also and therefore it doesn't see it as a
vector anymore but as a bunch of dots with a color called CutContour.

To fix it you can export it as a graphic, place it back into an AI doc and
then put on the path. The correct way is to flatten the transparency in AI.
You have to play around with the settings so it works and also doesn't screw
    with the colors.

I found this all out on the forums at

    Hope this helps

I have picked a color i usually don't use, like bright pink as the contour cut color. On the versaworks cd there is a swatch you install for illustrator. Once done go into illustrator, open the swatch tables, and there sound be one for roland.

What are you trying to do? If you apply a swatch to something you change the fill or stroke. That is all you can ever do with a swatch. What do you mean by "contour cut color"? Are you preparing a file for cutting on a vinyl plotter? If so, what is the problem, if any?

I think this is vinyl cutting. I looked it up and the Roland recognizes paths (1 pt) of a specific supplied color to cut, but has to work from an eps or pdf. The artwork has to be outlined with Add to Shape Area in the Pathfinder Palette (expanded). Use Object> Path> Offset Path if an offset or bleed is required (delete the original). Work from a copy. See Roland Service Bulletin- 030805-FE.

It is for the Roland print to cut feature, you print you art w/ registration marks, remove it and apply over laminate, reinsert it and register it, then the machine cuts the Contour cut (which you specify a color) This is for decals printed on vinyl.

Hello, think I may be able to help. This is a print and cut issue. What you must do is create 2 layers in illustrator. Layer 1 contains all your vector artwork. Layer 2 contains the cut contour only. Make sure that swatch is named CutContour (exactly. no spelling errors, we designers are good at them) I like to use 100% magenta for my CutContour colour, just coz it's easy to see on top of a complex graphic. Oh and make sure you select "cut all paths" on the print and cut tab in VersaWorks, dont worry it will only cut the paths specified by the CutContour.

P.s. set the knife pressure to 95 aswell, it seems to work a little better and is easier to weed.
