I'm using CS3 and in Illustrator I want to create text on a path that has a 4 pt stroke. I first create the path and then set the 4 pt stroke but when I start typing using the Type on a path tool, the stroked line disappears. I can't find anywhere that explains why or how do do it properly. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance. Barry

You have to reapply the stroke attributes by direct selecting the path and add the attributes. That's the way it is. Not accepted by everyone.

In AI 12 (CS2), after you've added your text, you can select the path using the direct selection tool (white arrow) and change stroke weight as desired. Switching to outline mode will help you select the path, but you have to be in preview mode to see the effect of the stroke weight change. {KurtBump}

Thank you both for the information. I see now what I did wrong. I tried selecting the line with the selection tool instead of the end points. It works great now. Thank you again. Barry
