Graphics question

This is a discussion on Graphics question within the Adobe illustrator forums in Adobe Tools category; I am a newcomer to Illustrator (Version 9.0) but have a question on a graphics file. I have a jpg of my logo that when opened in CS3, shows as normal. If I "place" this same logo into AI, it shows in colour, but with a white background. If I erase this background in CS3, and then "place" into AI, the white background still exists. So my query is how fo I take an RGB jpg and convert it for use in AI, without the white background. Default Re: Graphics question

JPEG does not support transparent pixels. In a decent raster imaging program, open the JPEG, mask the unwanted portion (how you do this depends on the raster program), and save it as a PNG. If you are using Photoshop, you can save it as Photoshop's native .psd format, and Illustrator will support the alpha masking it includes.

Otherwise, you can draw a vector path to use as a hard-edged Clipping Mask for the image.

Otherwise still, you can use vector or raster objects in Illustrator as Opacity Masks.
