This thing about keyboard shortcuts not working sometimes has to do with your language settings, especially if you are using a language other than U.S. Switch your language to U.S., do a keyboard shortcut (Cmd-Y or something) and then return to your usual language. Now shortcuts should work until next time you restart Illy. Failing this it can have something to do with a conflict - for example another application running in the background. Try turning off other applications. See if any of this helps.

I've seen it mess with the menus to have a right-to-left reading language as an option, but not necessarily active in your "system preferences -> international -> languages" list of languages. Just having hebrew in that list makes Illustrator unusable.

Possibly try out these 1. create a new point text and press key v and see if you get anything else but not v. I know someone who had had got this problem but that was a PC. Check keyboard settings that you might have changed to fixed this if you do not get v 2. Reset preferences 3. Contact Adobe support
