Transparency issues : Adobe illustrator
This is a discussion on Transparency issues within the Adobe illustrator forums in Adobe Tools category; This is probably a basic question, so I apologize for being so completely confounded by the issue. I have an .eps file which, when opened in Photoshop is a black symbol on a transparent background. However, when I open it in Illustrator, my transparent pixels are now white. I need the transparency back! How do I accomplish this? Thanks in advance to all who offer assistance! Susan...

Susan, What happens if you use the PSD file with the transparent background?

Jacob, that works. For this current project, I am very relieved! But, did I do something wrong with the .eps file to cause the transparency problem with the .eps file?

Susan, you are welcome. But, did I do something wrong with the .eps file to cause the transparency problem with the .eps file? Apart from opening it in Illy, no.

I have an .eps file which, when opened in Photoshop is a black symbol on a transparent background. Not possible. You cannot have an EPS image with a transparent background. If you try to save a Photoshop image with a transparent background as an EPS, Photoshop will save a copy. (Read the warnings in the 'save as' dialog carefully.) If you then open that EPS, you'll see it's been flattened (i.e., no more transparency). Using PSD is the way to go, but, if you must use EPS for some reason, make a clipping path in Photoshop.
