Opening an ID file in AI : Adobe illustrator
This is a discussion on Opening an ID file in AI within the Adobe illustrator forums in Adobe Tools category; I have a file from a customer that was built in InDesign. I have ID, but do not use it much. I tried exporting it as an eps file and opening it in AI since that is what we use to send our art to film for screen printing. It opens fine, but there is a psd image that is transparent gray image. All of the components in and around that psd image are broken up into pieces and the little white lines are showing up. They might now show up when printing, but I have a lot of setting ...

| I am using CS3 on a G5 Mac OS X 10.5.5 for both programs. I am going to post this on the ID forum as well. Thanks in advance |

| Did you try printing that AI fie to a PDF to see if the lines would print? |

| No I have not tried that yet just exporting to a pdf. But I got a suggestion on the ID forum to try copy and paste and it did a pretty good job. That was just too easy for me to think of. I just can't understand why someone would do a design for signage in ID over ai. The logo's were drawn in ai and placed into id. Thanks for the suggestion. Suzie |

| Export the ID file as an Acrobat 5 (or better) PDF. Open the PDF with Illustrator. EPS is a flat file format. Buy exporting to EPS you're causing the file to be flattened. Exporting as Acrobat 5 or better will retain layers and not flatten the file. |
