Enabling Track Changes in InDesign - Immoralor Missing Feature in the UI?
Hello Forum,
We have a suggestion from a customer: enable Track Changes in specific stories in InDesign (not to show them in InDesign, just to track them so that they can further be shown in InCopy).
I think I can enable this feature from the API, or modify the incx story manually to set the Track Changes option in it. Implementation details are out of question yet... The question is whether this is immoral or not, and if this is immoral, whether an alterntaive approach to the problem exists.
Why: the user cannot directly enable/disable Track Changes in the InDesign UI. To enable Track Changes in InDesign, the user has to open the story in InCopy first, enable Track Changes, save it, and reopen it in InDesign as a part of the nDesign document. After that InDesign tracks changes correctly.... This looks a bit suspiciously, e.g. if this was just a missing feature in the InDesign UI, or enabling Track Changes from the API in InDesign were an immoral solution...
So any ideas on whether this is immoral or not would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Pavel.

Re: Enabling Track Changes in InDesign - Immoralor Missing Feature in the UI?
The ability to track changes in InDesign document has been available for a long time using our plug-in CtrlChanges designed for InDesign and InCopy. CtrlChanges tracks all text changes in a document as it is being revised and displays added or deleted text in the Layout view. Tracking the changes in Layout view is key, since most users are used to relate to the design and therefore find it easier to the content.
Pleas check CtrlChanges out, perhaps this is what you are looking for.
