Hi everyone,
perhaps someone has an answer on a very simple question?
(It sounds like a stupid question bu I swear I really searched for
this answer, but did not find it...)
I know how to put tabs in indesign tables, but could not find out how
to JUMP to the tab. When try to jump to the set tab (with tab key),
the cursor doesn't jump to the tab but in the next cell.
Thanks in advance,
Petra

Petra, most the threads in this group were forwarded by Adobe from the
InDesign Users Groups. (Note the posters as being from @adobeforums.com.) I
feel it's a bit misleading to see all this activity when in fact +90% of the
"posters" do not know about Usenet, but to Adobe's credit, they have added
to the archive of useful information. You may find a better answer there.
To your original question, to navigate to a tab in a table, hold down the
Ctrl key while right arrow jumping. (This becomes a fluid motion once you
get used to jumping through stories for editing; add the Shift key to
highlight entire groups of words.)

pdan,
thank you very much for your answer and the information!
Could you please be so kind to help me again?
When I set a tab in a table cell and then press Ctrl and the right
arrow, nothing happens, the cursor stays at the old position instead
of jumping to the tab.
I'm really puzzled that it is so difficult to find out how to jump to
a tab. How can anybody know when the "normal" tab key is wrong and
nothing can be found in the indesign help :-)
Kind regards,
Petra

I may have assumed that you were working on a PC, the Mac equivalent for
navigating thru text would change, I work Mac and PC and just force my hands
to find the right keys sometimes. I expect the cmd + arrow key for the Mac.
(As I write this, or anything, I'm jumping and editing in this fashion.) If
you are on PC these combinations will work in any (almost) text environment
including dialog boxes. You might want to work with "Overprint Preview" off,
"Show Hidden Characters" so that you can see where the space and tabs are
within a cell.
