    Hi, Patrick,
    First, select your text frame.
On the right side of the app is a slide-out menu. Find the Swatches
tab. If it's not there, press F5 to display it. Left-click on the
color you wish to make the background color.

If your color is not in the Swatches, make a new one by deselecting
any text frames. Left click on Black, click on the little folder-type
icon, and then double-click on the "duplicate black" color. You will
get an options box to change your colorspace (RGB & CMYK, Pantone,
Spot/Process, etc.) and all the choices that go with it.

Then select your frame, and left-click on the color swatch.
