I am using Adobe PageMaker 7.0.1 to publish a weekly newsletter. All was fine until last week when we updated to new computers. We are still using XP. I create the newsletter in 11 x 17 format, back and front, for producing a hard copy. Once the hard copy is printing I then copy and paste the two 11 x 17 sheets into four 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. Once that is done I export to PDF for sending electronically. The 11 x 17 is fine and all the text is in the right place. However, since we installed the new system, when I move the text, graphics, photos, etc. from the 11 x 17 to 8 1/2 x 11, I get reformatted text. What can I do to stop the reformatting?

Different "Compose to" printers and tracking values are the first places to look. Iechyd da! John 20:50 15/07/2008 BST

Why not use 8.5 x 11 from the start?

Gosh! Don't know! I use the 11 x 17 format because I get greater use of the space. Just a half-inch border all around and small gutter in the middle for folding. Are you suggesting that I set the original in 8 1/2 x 11 and get the printer to put them together when I set print specifications? I would like to know more about this.

Are you suggesting that I set the original in 8 1/2 x 11 and get the printer to put them together when I set print specifications? Absolutely. This is the way most typesetters work - printers have their own imposition software and most usually prefer the file to be prepared as single pages. If you're printing it out on an office printer and it has no simple imposition options, then maybe doing it two-up makes sense, but doesn't PM come with a print booklet option?

> but doesn't PM come with a print booklet option? It does. It's not fantastic, but OK for basic 2-up saddle stitch. Some printers which duplex often have an imposition option built into the driver these days. Iechyd da! John 23:40 16/07/2008 BST
