Could anyone point me to how to do that, and how I managed to getthe audio waveform there to begin with?

I'm sorry Eddie, but I can't find anything in that help-section (\Help\1_4_6_0.html) regarding how to change the views in the Trim-window between Audio waveforms and video image.
The icon in the bottom righthand corner of your preview monitor is clickable through three setings: audio (a speaker), video (a film clip), and audio and video (a film clip and a speaker). Click it till you get your picture back.
Saol, is there any video at all at the cutpoint on your timeline when you open the Trim Window?
I can only reproduce this if the cutpoint is between audio only and not audio and video at the same time.
Make sure that you not have trimmed off any video frames to the left or to the right of the Current Time Indicator. One frame on each side is enough, so zoom into your timeline and check that.

I THINK I solved it. It seems I get thís phenomenon when I try to Trim between two clips that both are in the Video2-track. When I have clips alternating between Video1 and Video2 or only in Video1 I do not get this phenomenon.
Please note that both Video1 and Video2 are enabled for viewing. Video3 is disabled.
There are no trimmed frames.
I think this is strange.
Saol, you are correct there and this happens when Audio 1 and Video 1 is targeted and thats whats the Trim Window "looks" at. And since there are no video on Video 1 in this case the Trim Window opens up only the targetet track that has something in it - Audio 1.
If you target Audio 1 plus Video 2 everything works perfect when you open the Trim Window when you want to trim video that is placed on Video 2.
