Can not unlock an audio track

  1. Default Can not unlock an audio track

I seem to have problems unlocking audio tracks. When I drag a Video clip to the timeline that has Stereo, it locates itself on track #4 and will not let me move it to any other track (such as audio track 2. I can freely import Mono Audio files to any track except track 4 (not that I want to). I can unlock the audio and video file but, at that point, I can move the video clip but the audio clip is permanently locked to its possition.
Is there any way I can get control of this situation?

  2. Default Re: Can not unlock an audio track

I'm confused, as may be others...

In a typical, default project, the 1st 3 tracks are stereo. There is no fourth track(in the shipped, default settings.)

When I drag a Video clip to the timeline that has Stereo...

Does the clip have stereo, or the timeline? If it's a "Stereo" timeline, then your question implies the video clip you are dragging is mono, and thus will only inhabit a (newly created) mono track below the existing stereo tracks(the default ones), and this would be track 4.

I can freely import Mono Audio files to any track except track 4 (not
    that I want to).

I haven't tried this, but I suspect that there's some further confusion over the difference. Assuming the Mono Audio file is just that, it should refuse the 3 default stereo tracks, and only stop on track 4. If that's not the behavior you are experiencing, I'd check the credentials of that "Mono Audio" file.

I can unlock the audio and video file but, at that point,...

Unlock what? The tracks or the video? Do you mean unlink instead? If you do mean unlock(and thus are implying that some of the tracks are locked), then why are the tracks locked?

    More details, less ambiguity.......

Amanda, you can only place stereo audio on stereo tracks.

You can not place stereo audio on mono tracks and vice versa. So, the tracks seems to be locked but they are not.

Greig, you are correct. After further checking, tracks 1 thru 3 are set to mono. That explains why my stereo track was automatically pushed to track 4. The problem is that some of the stereo audio is not wanted and some of it is wanted. Unfortunately I can not delete the unwanted Stereo audio on track 4. If I turn off the audio on track 4, nothing on 4 will be heard. If I leave it on, all the audio on track 4 "will be heard."

When I "unlink" a video clip with a stereo track, I can move the video, but the audio stays put. In fact, it is "locked" on the track and can not be shifted or deleted.

Is there a way to delete the unwanted stereo clips or must I export the original to an audio editor and convert every stereo cip to mono?

Amanda, I strongly recommend you watch the tutorials linked in the PPro Wiki. They will show you how to work with audio tracks. Well worth your time.Cheers
