Question about KB shortcut in Premiere 6.5

  1. Default Question about KB shortcut in Premiere 6.5

    Hi:

this may be a stupid question but... is there a keyboard shortcut to
"Render Work Area" that DOESN'T start playing the project from the
beginning of the work area?(as the Enter key does). I would like to be able
to render the area that I'm working on, check it qickly by placing the edit
line wherever I want, and then move along to the next edit... pulling down
from the menu to render is sort of a pain. I know I can always move the
beginning of my work area closer to the edit I'm about to render but that's
    sort of a pain too.

If anyone has a definitive answer... thanks!
    Sailor

Assign the Timeline/Render Work Area function to a key under Commands.
It'll just render anything needed but won't play, or is there
something I'm missing in your question?

    Cheers

I think "Sailor" is refering to the silly habit of Premiere to move the
cursor back to 00:00:00:00 after rendering the timeline. I agree that
this is bizzare and counter-productive. Perhaps it made sense to
somebody at Adobe once upon a time, or perhaps they never thought
    about it.

What version of Premiere? I'm using 6.5 here and if I add an effect to
some vision then select Timeline/Render Work Area the edit cursor
stays exactly where I left it ...

    Cheers

I am also using 6.5 and it drives me batty.

Strange - make sure we are talking the same process here. I don't mean
hitting enter to render the previews but selecting Timeline/Render
Work Area from the menu at the top of the screen? Prem will certainly
return to the start of the work area if you hit enter to render.

    Cheers

Nope. I've never tried hitting <Enter>. I'm talking about selecting
Timeline - Render Work Area from the menu bar/dropdown menu.
At least it doesn't move your work window. So I can set the cursor
back just before the section I want to check. Still anyoing to have to
    do that every time, though.

Well that is weird, coz mine certainly doesn't work that way ... and
I'm pretty sure there are no preferences set for that.

    Cheers

Here's what I do. Roughly center the area in the timeline window, be
sure to include the full area that you want to preview. Double Click
on the work area bar at the top of the window. This centers the
yellow work area indicator on the area displayed in the time line.
Adjust to encompass only the area to be previewed/rendered. Hit
ENTER. Preview will play from beginning of work area indicator, not
    from beginning of project.

Exactly! I think it would be great if it would just render as I moved
along, but not try to play the whole production
