problem, but wanted to participate in the thread anyway"

    Congratulations, you have.

At least you were reasonably polite.

    Thanks for that.

For what it's worth, you're not the only one having this problem:

Here is the official Adobe troubleshooting guide for startup problems:

Here's a doc that describes how to completely remove every trace of
PE3.0 so that you can try a clean reinstall:

    Thanks.

I get "Error: Page Not Found" when I enter that URL, but I found the
page I think you are talking about through the search function.

I tried all of the fixes except removing every codec (which breaks
other programs) and formatting the hard drive.

If I have to go through those measures to run a single application,
then said application has become more of a burden to me than the
    potential benefit.

I am selling it and looking at other solutions.

I am sure that the other solutions are not as good a properly
functioning copy PE, but I am not willing to jump through the myriad of
hoops that Adobe has laid before me to POSSIBLY get the application to
    run on my machine.

Therefore I will settle for something else. You have to pick your
battles, and video editing is my hobby, not profession. The programs
the I would have to screw around with pay the bills, and they all work
fine. I am not going to tailor my entire system for one application.

    Nobody should have to, IMHO.

It's just sloppy coding, IMHO. Requisite files/codecs/libraries should
load in protect users memory addresses, and the application should not
allow itself to be brought down by third party programs that "don't
    play well with it".

Well written and complete applications generally don't need to concern
themselves with other applications installed on a particular machine.

This is the only think that I have ever tried to install that just
doesn't work ... and does not do so much as leaving a core dump or
    error message.

I'll do the removal, but forgo the re-install.

Again, thank you for your help.

You're right. That URL doesn't work. The URL for the page I found was
insanely long and had that shorter one suggested at the bottom of the
page. I guess I should have tested them before posting the message.

I see your point and hope you find something that meets your needs.
