Premiere Elements 4.0, Windows XP Pro. I just got the DVDs and loaded Premiere Elements this morning. The first project I tried to add a wmv clip and Elements crashed. Anybody else have this happen? Any ideas? JAG

JAG, You will need to give us more to go on here. Tell us, in detail, about the WMV file, size, dimensions, how was it generated, Audio, etc. The more detail, the better. Usually PE plays nice with a lot of WMV's, but just like AVI, there can be a lot of differences in a WMV wrapper. Next, tell us about your system, OS (XP-Pro SP-?), processor, RAM, I/O, video card, sound card, etc. Last, what were you doing, when the program crashed. When you've supplied those types of details, you might want to read over the FAQ's at the top of this forum. Don't just limit that reading to PE4, but go back and read the various other versions' FAQ, as well. There is a wealth of info in those, and probably some ideas for improving the performance of both your system and PE4. Hunt

Like I said Premiere Elements 4.0 Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 2 Pentium 4 3.GHz, 1.49 GB of RAM SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller I tried to open two different WMV files from drive. One is 38Meg, other is 6 Meg. They were recorded from a webinar we produced. Part of the problem is memory. I moved the cache file to C: drive which has 25 Gig free disc space. I moved the files to C: drive and tried to open them and it went a little further but got error message: The instruction at 0x07c3bfb8 referenced memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be read. Thanks, for your help. JAG

Unless the WMV files are not editable, then they should work. Sometimes the encoder puts the keyframes are too far apart. You have the same sound and video that I have. You only have 96MB of shared memory for graphics. Not really that good for video work, and definitely not for high definition. Why the odd amount of RAM? Does your owners manual say you can do that without causing problems? Quicktime breaks very easily, I recently found out. Uninstall and then reinstall the latest version. You could also uninstall and then reinstall Windows Media Player. That's all I have.

I attempted to load an .avi clip; however, each time I clicked on the folder containing the clip PE 4 promptly crashed. I'm running a PC with XP Service Pack 3. My PC has a AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 6000+ (3.01 Ghz) and 3.00 Gb RAM. The PC has a GeForce 8500 GT video card and I;ve loaded the latest drivers for the video card. I have the latest versions of Quick Time & Real Windows. I have two hard drivesl the first with 173 Gb avaiable space and the slave drive has 142 Gb available space. Any help would be appreciated.
