Edit Original Smart Objects Won't Work - Adobe Tools

If this was the same problem I was having on Windows I believe the
solution is to go to: Settings>Control Panel>Performance and
Maintenance>File Types>FileType tab. Scroll down until you see the PSD
file format and reset which program is the default to open it. Hope
this help.

p.s. I'm am a Mac person so am not particularly knowledgable on
windows, so I hope I gave you accurate enough info.
