Hello All I am new to the forum so forgive me it I have posted this question in the wrong spot... I am a mid level user of photoshop and fireworks and in-design and a new user of illustrator. I have been asked by a real estate agent to draw computerized floor plans (to scale) for each home that they have on the market. (Along with that I will be creating their feature sheets) Can this be done (relatively easily) in Adobe software? Or should I be purchasing something like Autocad? Does anyone have any advice or helpful hints for me?

Autocad is better, but it can be done fairly easily in Adobe Illustrator, and with a bit more work in Photoshop. Among the things the Adobe programs don't have, that Autocad does, is automatic dimensioning (so you draw a room and it automatically puts width and depth dimensions in). You can create these in Illustrator, but you have to do it manually. Autocad might also have tools to cast out the square footage of a house, as you draw it ... I'm not that familiar with the program. It really is the tool for architectural drawings, however.

Cathy, There is vector-based software that is specifically designed to create floor plans and add furniture and furnishings. These would be more intuitive than Illustrator for this purpose, although you can certainly set up a grid in Illustrator and draw against that. I don't know if AutoCad is ideal either. But I don't know the specifics. Neil

Cathy, You know...I was thinking that I actually saw some consumer-level software at Barnes & Noble or one of the other bookstores, or perhaps CompUSA that came in several iterations: one for laying out your garden, one for doing up your home, etc., and this stuff was, what? $49.95? Neil

And with those ones it is relatively simple to save it in a format, or copy and paste, compatible with MS Word or Publisher...
