Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
Hi,
in our studio we have discussion about how to supplied artworks to our client for style guide. My artdirector wants ai files as a Illustrator 10 EPS, I would prefer CS EPS. It will make whole process much easier, but I understand that AI EPS 10 would be better for users with lower version... anyway Illustrator 10 EPS isn't too low? I think most designers use CS already.
Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
Any ideas, suggestions, experiences with supplying these files for different versions of Illustrator, InDesing, Freehand, Corel, PowerPoint
etc.
Thank you.

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
Pixel,
Unless the graphics depend upon features of the later version, I would supply the earlier version for greater compatibility, particularly for users (like clients) who are non-designers. Saving them as .eps makes them more compatible with outside applications.
I don't understand why you feel CS would make the process much easier. Also note that the current version is CS3. Preparing Illustrator files for pass-off into other Adobe applications, like Photoshop or InDesign, can be as native .ai, again assuming that you would be using them in similar vintage (or later) apps.
For more specific Illustrator help, I recommend that you ask in the appropriate Illustrator forum. Thanks!

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
Neil,
Thank yo for your replay.
I am using CS2 and in couple of weeks I will have CS3...I hope
Suppling artwork as AI 10 EPS is problem because sometimes I would used some features which are not supported by AI 10. Than I will have to find another solution and I will take a lot of time.
I would like to know what application supports AI 10 EPS and not AI CS EPS. If client will ask you to supplied, of course you have to. But I have found out we use AI 10 EPS as standards, but nobody is able tell me why.

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
If you're supplying artwork for use with various workflows and programs
you need to supply more than one version.
For InDesign or Illustrator save as AI with PDF compatibility. For
Freehand and CorelDRAW stick with version 8 EPS, for PowerPoint, PNG.

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
I agree with Bob's recommendations. The point is, Illustrator 8 .eps will allow for greater compatibility than Illustrator 10 -- unless you know specifically that the recipient has an app that can read a later or different format.

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
So basically you think the best option is to supply artwork as:
- native format
- lower version (AI 08 EPS)
- PNG
If I have simple Style Guide it would be hundred files :/

A moot point since the OP isn't limited to one format. If this job is to
be delivered and used by the client for all the purposes mentioned it
MUST be delivered in more than one format.
Unfortunately, this isn't a one size fits all situation.

Pixel,
If I had to limit this to one format, I'd probably go with AI 8 .eps. Bob may have different thoughts on this.

Bob,
My response was the OP's apparent concern: "If I have simple Style Guide it would be hundred files".

Re: Illustrator CS EPS vs. Illustrator 10 EPS
If that's what it is, then that's what it is.
I don't do a tremendous amount of identity work, but I always supply
files in a multitude of formats and color models.
