DW CS4 - Your thoughts!

  1. Default DW CS4 - Your thoughts!

Hi, I currently own DW CS3 but find it not very user friendly. I am looking at DW CS4 but I was wondering if it is any more like Golive than DW CS3 or if it makes designing websites any more intuitive. Also is it easier to create CSS in DW CS4?

Those of you who have made the transition from DW CS3 to DW CS4 tell me your thoughts fro the perspective of a GL user.

    Thanks!

DW CS4 has the same interface as DW CS3 with most of the same limitations.
Bottom line, DW is still, app-crap!

Yes, I agree when comparing to GL, DW is crap, but unfortuntely it doesn't look like GL will be resurrected, so I need to learn DW.

so frustrating, all the little things i took for granted are done in such a assbackwards way in DW I cant believe it. Every time a new version comes out I get demo and say to myself, "Ok, this time I have to learn it." and always go back to GL. GL9 is a joke. I am trying to force myself to just use DW but its hard. They cant get simple drag and drop to work. Double clicking on a folder on the site window expands folder and doesnt actually go INSIDE it. Rollover images are not auto detected. I have to BROWSE to rollover images. I can go on and on and on......

You could go on an on ...on a feature request form for Dreamweaver.

    Iorne,

Actually, just as any web authoring app as Dreamweaver or GoLive or even Microsoft Frontpage, the essential functions to work for all kinds of websites are knowing and understanding the fundamentals of HTML (and CSS). If you assume that any web authoring app do the magical works of creating websites, you are in wrong path of assuming that web authoring app do the work for you. It is not how it is.

Having that said, "know" and "understand", plus having both of your hands dirty... yes d-i-r-t-y under the hood of HTML and CSS, the more comfort zone you eventually be felt to working with any HTML authoring app.

    Hope that helps.

    Dirk,

Your observation of DwCS4 vs DwCS3's interface are the same. Nice try! As a matter of factly, t is NOT a fact. It is misleading statement.

How did you know that it IS the same interface? Have you test-drive it and see it for yourself?I doubt that you did. Did you, no?

    Have a nice Halloween evening!

DWCS4 is better UI-wise than DWCS3 is. I've used GL since version 1 pre-adobe and still do, stick to GCS2, as I've not had the proper time to migrate sites and am waiting for MenuMachine in its next version.

DW still (talking about CS4) has a long way to go before it comes to par with GoLive when it comes to smart objects (only have them for Photoshop files) and sitemanagement, but apart from that it is quite OK.

As always when switching applications there is a threshold of learning and getting used to before becoming comfortable in the new application, but the basics of DW and GL are not all that different. it is all html and css under the hood no matter hwo you look at them. Personally I am waiting for MenuMachine before doing the migration. But I am more ready to do it with CS4 than I was with CS3.
