TrueType fonts not packaged from InDesign CS2 on Windows XP

  1. Default TrueType fonts not packaged from InDesign CS2 on Windows XP

Has anyone else had trouble with InDesign not packaging some TrueType fonts, and not giving a clue in its reporting of either PreFlight or Packaging?

I have a chapter of document that uses mostly either Type1 or OpenType, but it has a few characters from Windows XP's Asian font support, which are True Type. In particluar, I'm using either MSPMincho or MS UI Gothic.

On the Preflight report, MS UI Gothic (the font in this chpater) is listed as TrueType and OK.

After I package up the chapter, though, the font is neither there nor reported as not there. It's just ignored.

My book printer seems not to have the font; so it would be nice to supply it for this job.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This could be a legal breach of your license for use of your fonts.

Your font issues could well be resolved on all fronts by creating an supplying a PDF of the document to your printer.

For further issues, as Ramón suggests, please post in the InDesign forum where those pros can help.

    Thanks.

InDesign CS2 doesn't package large Asian fonts. This is a deliberate design choice and not an unintended bug.

    Thomas,

I think Diana is referring to gathering up all graphics and fonts for print output rather than bundling such fonts with the purchase of InDesign. (Although if Adobe did, they would most likely be OT format, of course.)

    Neil,

And that's what Thomas is talking about too.

InDesign CS2 doesn't package large Asian fonts.

And I read his comment as the "other" package. <g> The term ingrained in my thinking is "collect" as in "Collect for output..." in QuarkXPress.

Right. But I did indeed mean package for output. Collect, whatever you wish to call it.

    Cheers,

....I gotta get away from QuarkXPress! <g>
