I'm having Friday brain freeze. Can anyone suggest a substitute for Europa Grotesk Extended Regular, please? This client has worn me out! Thanks in advance.

What's wrong with Europa Grotesk Regular Extended? It's available from many sources. You CAN substitute anything that suits your fancy -- what kind of "substitute" are you looking for? Or am I missing something ?

Nothing wrong with it, Herb, but it was a quick turnaround job, the client wanted Europa Grotesk Regular Extended and we don't currently own it. I was attempting to get the job out the door for proofing until I could get a check request to order the face, and simply wanted a suggestion for a similar face.

Gary, the client wanted Europa Grotesk Regular Extended and we don't currently own it. Then you simply buy the font license and bill back the client. Like purchasing stock photography or outside services, it is standard practice. And you mark it up as well. Even with a quick turnaround job, you Google the font, purchase the license, and download the font from a legitimate reseller. Charge it to a credit card so you don't have to go through accounting with a check request. Why mess with "kinda sorta like" and then have to redo the job when you could have the actual font for a few bucks? Neil

Neil, ours is an in-house department, we don't have company credit cards, and Friday I wasn't willing to charge it to my personal card. Meanwhile, the client was screaming for a proof. I was simply hoping for a substitute "binky" for the client until I could get a check request through this week. It's all completely moot this morning, so we can just let this topic fade into the archive. Cheers, g

Gary, I know it's late, but that font looks like a close knockoff of Helvetica Extended. But the problem is if the client is that fussy about the font, then the danger is that a substitute might not be acceptable for a proof. Again, just some Monday morning quarterbacking here -- no need to respond. Neil

I forgot the first rule of being a creative: Yell a lot and throw things! I told the client they'd have to wait for me to purchase the typeface since they were specing a face outside of our normal standards. I'm going to stop answering the phone on Fridays! (JK)

I gave up throwing things. Cleaning up the mess is just too anticlimactic! <g> But, actually, explaining the situation to the client so you could order the font would be the route I'd take. And, no, don't answer the phone Fridays. At least not Friday afternoons! Neil
