I tried to set the video mode to 12h (640x480 VGA) and saw all
distorted characters. I am using a 17" LCD Screen and my windows
display properties refuses to go below 800x600 Is it possible to use
600x800 displ;y from the native BIOS routines or diaplay 640x480 on an
    LCD?

Sorry, I was not aware of comp.lang.asm.x86 so I have also posted this
    on comp.lang.asm

You need to say if you are using stand-alone DOS on an AT/XT/38s/486
or similar old computor or running under Windows command-line
emulator. And do you have a VGA card or a mother-board with built-in
video graphics? I would suspect a new modern computer under windows
and using a flat screen display which might not adapt to low-
    resolution.

Use Google to fing "INT 10"; there are tables with all the settings
    defined.

Also you find a modelist in Ralf Browns Interrupt List
    (RBIL -> inter61a.zip -> Interrup.a(Table 00010)).

Check your BIOS setup screens. There is probably a way to turn off
"automatic expansion", which is what makes a 640x480 screen look so bad on
a larger LCD. The image will be smaller, but it will not be stretched.

Also note that mode 12 is a graphics mode, and your video BIOS might not
support writing characters in graphics mode.
