Default OT: OCR a barcode

Is it possible to get the value of a barcode using OCR? A client of
mine tells me he can OCR the 'normal' font info but not the barcode -
which is a font after all.

There are some questions about this in the NG but it seems from
inactive users, and no solution given.

i have certainly used demo versions of forms products that would read
bar codes in scans. I didn't get as far as hooking them into VO though.

Thanks for your reaction.

I've talked to Alwin and learned a lot about OCR programs. In general
he told me that programs like MS Document scanning are just pre-loaded
with common fonts, they do not 'read' fonts in use on the PC. So for
the task done in this case, the programs you mention, even if they
have an SDK, they are too heavy.
