OT - Make subject lines relevant

This is a discussion on OT - Make subject lines relevant within the cobol forums in Programming Languages category; It has been a while since I last REQUESTED that when you are responding to a CLC post with input that mostly (or completely) is UNrelated to the subject line, please CONSIDER changing the subject line. There are some of us who read some "off-topic" threads but are more careful to try and read all "on-topic" notes. When the subject is "on-topic" but reading within the note it is apparent that all that is being "added" is off-topic info, this is annoying (to me - if no one else). I (personally) see little to relate the "life and times of ...

Default OT - Make subject lines relevant

It has been a while since I last REQUESTED that when you are responding to a CLC
post with input that mostly (or completely) is UNrelated to the subject line,
please CONSIDER changing the subject line.

There are some of us who read some "off-topic" threads but are more careful to
try and read all "on-topic" notes. When the subject is "on-topic" but reading
within the note it is apparent that all that is being "added" is off-topic info,
this is annoying (to me - if no one else).

I (personally) see little to relate the "life and times of being a contractor"
with the handling of X'0D' bytes in line sequential files on AIX. I understand
how the thread "drifted" there, but would prefer that the subject line gets
changed - when the topic under discussion is changed.

As always, this is NOT a moderated newsgroup, so you are "free to do as you
please" - but that doesn't stop me from requesting such "user-friendly" (where I
am the user) actions.

A perfectly reasonable and valid request.

(Actually, I see nothing to relate to the "the life and times of being a
contractor", as described here, and ANYTHING else, including the life and
times of being a contractor, but different folks get different strokes.)

I, for one, will endeavour to comply.

Pete.
