| In my post, I'd got as far as finding out that the VAB 2008 product I downloaded would not run on my O/S (after paying for it and after a long futile download). Further dialogue has got us this far: their 2007 product will run under my O/S. But I can't download it because all their settings for me are now indicating that I have the 2008 product. These can't be changed, apparently, and there's no way I can get a product older than the one I "have". And they are asking me: do you want a refund? Words fail me. PL |

It is VERY difficult to get an earlier version of something installed over a later one. I have learned to do it but it is ugly and requires messing with the Registry. Best avoided. Sometimes, because .DLLs are shared it can be problematic to re-install a product then find your action has impacts on other products. Fortunately, I've only ever experienced this once. I think what is annoying is when any vendor refuses to allow you to do what you WANT to do, assuming that you will want support and that they will only provide it for the latest incarnation of their product. They should give you fair warning then allow you to do whatever you want. It is YOUR system, not theirs... > > And they are asking me: do you want a refund? > "Yes" would seem to be a pretty valid response. Or, perhaps... "I'll see you in Court..." How does the installer know what you have? Probably through a registry entry. Go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\(company) and delete the whole branch. |
