Re Respect

This is a discussion on Re Respect within the cobol forums in Programming Languages category; 'respect', 'responsibility', 'accountability', 'straight-line codeing', and the dodo bird each have had their time, have served their pupose, and have been replaced by... the hell if i know. but i am an old man and am not supposed to know. pete. if the world was flat we could jump off; but maybe it's time to move to australia where i hear there is still some 'respect' to be had. or maybe we should just adapt to the new world we live in. i don't have that much time remaining so it wont be a big deal for me. sss ps. ...

pete. if the world was flat we could jump off; but maybe it's time to move to australia where
i hear there is still some 'respect' to be had. or maybe we should just adapt to the new
world we live in. i don't have that much time remaining so it wont be a big deal for me.

ps. from time to time i write a 'cobol' program in 'straight-line' just to remember how it used
to be. but only to remember.

No respect to be had in Australia, Sam - unless youre a sportsman (while
you're winning...)

In the computing area, any manager who has constructed a spreadsheet
considers herself a hot-shot database programmer, and expects to pay $20 per
hour for computer resources because that's all she needs to pay her niece to
produce a system that's very near to working using the programming skills
from the computing strand of her hairdressing course.

Sewing-machine mechanics and lawnmower-drivers - well, for the important
stuff, then you can expect to pay $80 per hour or more....
