Microsoft Commerce Server 2007

This is a discussion on Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 within the Commerce server forums in Microsoft Tools category; Hi All, I am currently assinged on a task to evaluate MS Commerce Server 2007 whether it could be worth the risk in using it on our client's websites (Mostly, our target clients are small-to-medium businesses). I was wondering if I could get some advice of whether MS Commerce server is feasible enough to be offered to other clients for their eCommerce services? Thank you so much! Cheers, Ann...

Default Microsoft Commerce Server 2007

Hi All,

I am currently assinged on a task to evaluate MS Commerce Server 2007
whether it could be worth the risk in using it on our client's
websites (Mostly, our target clients are small-to-medium businesses).

I was wondering if I could get some advice of whether MS Commerce
server is feasible enough to be offered to other clients for their
eCommerce services?

Thank you so much!

Cheers,

Hi Ann,

This is a very difficult question to answer with the limited amount of
information provided. I am going to start with some general areas to look at
and you can let me know more specific questions as we go along. It might
help you get closer to what you are looking at.

Commerce server's strength is the rubust nature of the product being able to
be worked into some pretty complex situations. What it is not is a turn-key,
out of the box, e-commerce solution. It will require significant developmer
involvement to bring an e-commerce strategy to market.

However, that being said, I have used it a number of times as a framework to
provide a solution that 100's of customer's were able to brand their own
storefront with custom functionality you wouldn't have found in any other
storefront type product.

I think the factors that will go into this decision will be more specific to
the needs of each of your clients. What are their current commerce site
needs, and what are you looking to acheive by moving to Commerce Server? Do
you have a dedicated development staff?

Here is a link to some generalized information about Commerce Server
including a "Getting Started" guide.

Also, I would recommend contacting your local Microsoft Sales office and
asking if they have any people available to perhaps provide a Q/A session to
help you determine if Commerce Server is right for you.

Thanks,

Jerry
