I'm 100% sure that Delphi 2007 sold more copies in the year 2007, and in
2008 so far, than Delphi 7 did. :-)

Possible, but I don't think it did. D7 you also need to count the people
that bought D8 to get D7. And finally - there are a ton of pirate D7 users
because they were on D5/6 and wanted to move up. While Nick says you can buy
D7 today, I'm not sure that was always the case and I'm sure most did not
know this at all, and then there are also just a lot of pirates.
As far as this - I DO have numbers. IntraWeb when you request key upgrades
can detect duplicate requests of serial numbers.

What was wrong with D6? 3 years ago - even in D2005 timeframe it was the
most widely used IDE.

Yes.

I was surprised to hear of D3 users. There arent that many though.

I would like to know my self too. I am using it every day at work and probably
we will keep on using it until the release of the 64 bit compiler.

I love my D3. It does not have all the bells and whistles of D5 and upwards but
it is fast produces smaller exe's than the rest and I steel use it for a small
image browser which I have that can feet in a single floppy with up to 36 jpeg
images.

also I do, Entreprise edition at office, and Personal Edition at home.
Delphi 7 (I know because I have write this book
http://www.eyrolles.com/Informatique...9782212111439/ ) support UML,
but I don't care.
before D6 I was still using D2 for the lightness of its IDE

I don't think you carefully read Warren's post before replying to it

Was nearly as bug-ridden as Delphi 4.

I don't think you used D4 enough then.
I remember several update packs to D6, those seem to have stablized it.

Previously I worked at a place where the software was translated into other
languages using the resourcestring setup provided by Delphi. This is
seriously buggy in D6! In D7 it's somewhat better, but requires enormous
amounts of memory, and isn't guaranteed to work either.
At present, where I'm working, we are using D6, with NO PROBLEMS (we're
using an independent method to handle the languages). Lean and mean.

Perhaps i just didn't stick around long enough. i test drove it, and
recommended that our company not get it.
