Assuming you mean the retail package, the 2002 version came with six (Disks
1 through 4, Component Update, and Academic Tools). As I don't have the 2003
version retail package here in front of me, someone else will have to
provide the actual count.
My *guess* for 2003 would be seven (Disks 1 and 2, Prerequisites, MSDN 1 - 3
and Academic Tools).

Another member here posted a confirmation of my guess in another thread. The
correct number of CD's in Visual Studio .NET 2003 is seven.
