This isn't too much help, but I would like to encourage you at least. I
used Eudora in an earlier life and I had to do this excercise myself, so
I know it can be done - although I don't quite remember how. There is
some extra plugin or setting you need to acccess, and I am sure someone
on this forum will know. I deleted Eudora from my drive recently after a
(hard, physical) crash, so I can't check it for you. But take heart! :-)

I think all settngs can be set on an individual personality basis, using
x-eudora-settings. Try
<x-eudora-setting:7211@personality=PORT> where "personality" is the name
of the personality, and "PORT" is the SMTP port number. I've never
tried this myself, but I think it will work.

Re: change port for smtp
If the port number you need to use is the standard mail submission port,
587, there's a checkbox in the Personality settings, under Sending mail,
that says Use submission port (587). Check that box.
If it's not 587, you either need to play with x-eudora-settings, which
is possible to do for an individual personality, or (easier) get the
Personality Ports plugin and it adds a Settings pane to set ports for
each personality.

Re: change port for smtp
I do want to use port 587 for one personality
I'm using Eudora Mac 6.1.1 and don't see anything like "Use submission
Port" either in Sending Mail or Personalities settings.
What is the Personality Ports Plugin?
I tried the x-eudora-setting:7211@personality=PORT but there is an
additional problem: the smtp authorization requires a different login
name and password.

In that case you may want to upgrade to 6.2, where that option does
appear under the "Personalities" pane in the bottom section, under
Sending mail. I don't remember if it was there in 6.1 or not. (You
shouldn't need to upgrade, though, because you can also set the port as
indicated below.)

Try checking the box for "Allow authorization," also there in the
sending mail portion of the Personalities pane. If it still doesn't
work because of the SMTP authorization requiring a different login name
and password, split the personality into two personalities. Set one of
them for POP only, and use the POP username and password for it.
Uncheck the box for "send mail whenever mail is sent." Make another
personality for sending, and on this one use the SMTP username and
password, and uncheck the box for "Check mail on manual checks."
Let us know how it goes. :-)

Althernatively find the Esoteric Settings plugin.
In 6.2 you need to Get Info on the Eudora application in the Finder and
check the box next to the Esoteric Settings plugin. Once you have that
you can open Settings under Special in the Eudora application and there
is a Ports & Protocols setting option that allows you to set POP port,
SMTP port etc etc
In earlier versions this was an extra file you had to get hold of and
put into your Eudora Application folder. I would do a search at
Support on the Eudora site for how to set it up in your version.

It's a plugin that adds a pane to the Eudora Settings that allows you to
specify, for each personality, the ports that should be used for POP,
SMTP, IMAP, Finger, and Ph. It also allows you to change some other
settings.
You can get it at

But as Michael pointed out it is bundled with Eudora in the Esoteric
Settings, which Paul should already have.
