Customize the Toolbar

  1. Default Customize the Toolbar

I'm a long-time Eudora user on Windows... I've recently had the
opportunity to work on a Mac, and I'd like to continue using Eudora. I
have the 6.2.4 release installed, and I'm trying to get it set up.

I found documentation on how to customize the toolbar. Not the most
intuitive, but at least it can be done. However there are a couple
    things I can't figure out.

How do you add a "divider" or "separator" or whatever to create groups
of buttons on the toolbar? I think it must be possible, because it
looks like there is a separator of sorts (a small gap between adjacent
buttons). But I've not been able to figure out how to put separators
    where I want them.

Also, I can't seem to find buttons (or menu commands) for
    - Reply All
    - Redo
    - Print Preview
    - Compact Mailboxes

I suppose Print Preview might not be available on the Mac interface,
and Compact Mailboxes might not apply to the Mac version. I could even
live without Redo... But Reply All??? Surely there's a menu command
(other than holding the "apple" key down while hitting reply)...

One other thing... In the PC version you could install the older icon
versions by copying EudoraOldIcons.epi into the Eudora directory. So
far I haven't seen anything like that in the Mac distribution... Any
    chance??

    thanks,
    scott

Both simply available- Print Preview is available via the Print command
and dialogue box, one click in all Mac applications. For the rest, read
the .pdf manual, it's quite good.

Why? What could be simpler? Why mess around with menu commands when
there's a simple keystroke to do it.

If you use Special->Settings->Toolbar on Steroids (which I think you get
when you install the Esoteric Settings), you get the option to set the
spacing between buttons (I have mine set at 2), extra spacing between (I
have mine set at 4) and the buttons per group (I have mine set at 4).
Perhaps not exactly what you want, but close. Toolbar on Steroids also
lets you choose horizontal vs. vertical toolbar, and whether you want
big or small icons, names or no names on your toolbar. (I use vertical,
names only). You can also map function keys to buttons.

Click on the box at the bottom of the mailbox (the one that shows the
number of messages, the size of the mailbox and the size of the deleted
message). That will compact that mailbox. I think it's option-click to
    compact all the mailboxes.

That's how you do it. I've created a button in my toolbar for it to
    make it easier.

    There's a plug-in for it -- I know, because I have it installed. The
problem with so many of these things is that once you do it, you forget
where it is done... Andrew Starr's plugin page is an excellent resource
for those looking to tweak Eudora:

    Hope this helps.

One mouse click on a button is simpler that holding a key down while making
the mouse click... to me anyway...

Eudora is wonderfully customizable, so we can each use it the way we
prefer. I usually reply all quoting selection, so I highlight the
    selection, then use command-option-shift-r.

For some reason I have never been able to get that working:
command-shift-r works fine, but command-option-shift-r does nothing. The
only way for me is to hold down option + shift and select "reply quoting
selection to all" from the Message menu.

    Any ideas?

I didn't have the Esoteric Settings enabled, but do now. What you
describe is right, but yeah, it's not exactly what I was looking
for... On the windoze version you can arbitrarily create groups of any
size, so not all of the groups I've created there map to the same
size. For instance, I have "Check Mail" and "Empty Trash" in their own
groups (of 1) so they kind of stand out from the others and don't get
    hit by accident as often.

But, if it can't be done in the Mac version, I guess I'll just have to
    get used to it...

Ok, I found them, but I'm not able to assign them to a toolbar
button... When the "Toolbar Button Creation" window pops up, as soon
as I click the "Print..." menu item, it assigns that to the button
before I can get to the "Preview" button on the dialog. In the case of
"Compact Mailboxes", it won't let me assign via a mouse click, and I
don't (yet) know of a key sequence that will do it.

Oh well, in both of these cases, no big deal.

I can assign "opt-cmd-r" to the button, and it will work as Reply All.
Is there a way to assign a better icon to it than the default
"keystroke" icon? (looks like a generic button on the keyboard, with
    the letter "A")

I think this is accomplished by *disabling* the Eudora Icons 6.0
plug-in. Looking at the older icons in this context, I'm not so sure I
don't like the newer ones better anyway. :-)

Nice page... I'll give it some more attention.

    Thanks for the pointers...
