Progress Bar doesn't work : Eudora
This is a discussion on Progress Bar doesn't work within the Eudora forums in Other Technologies category; Hi all, I'm using 7.1.0.9, paid mode. Since getting a new computer (Dell XPS410 with Core 2 Duo Proc.) The progress bar doesn't work. When receiveing mail it just sits there until the mail is in and then jumps all the way across. Well, that's for one piece of mail. If there are, say, three, it jumps one-third of the way over after each one is received. It's worse on send; it just jumps over immiediately, showing that the mail and attachments are all done, even though they're not. I'm in the boondocks on dial-up and I sometimes have to ...

I'm in the boondocks on dial-up and I sometimes have to send large files to clients. I just have to watch the "little screens" on the task bar and wait unitl I think the attachment has been sent. Any ideas? Thanks |

It sounds like your anti-virus software is using a proxy server to scan your email. You may be able to monitor the progress from that program, or you could opt to disable email scanning. Erik |

This is because your Anti-virus software reads the email into memory, (which is a slow process), during which time it is giving Eudora nothing, or maybe just a few tidbits of headers to keep it from timing out. When it has finished reading the whole mail into memory, and scanning it for viruses, it then transfers the whole email to Eudora. As the speed of this in-memory transfer is limited only by the speed of your computer, it is very fast, so the Eudora progress bar leaps from email to email instantly. Likewise with send. Unfortunately there is nothing Eudora can do about this. |

| Thanks much for your replies. With this info. I have disabled "outbound scanning" in my McAfee Viruscan and Voila! I can now be sure when an attachment has been sent. |
