| Here, I'll create that error myself: To: NoSuchPerson@myown.edu [Send] And Eudora says: RCPT TO: <NoSuchPerson@myown.edu> [12:32:45 AM] Can't send to 'NoSuchPerson@myown.edu' The server gives this reason: '550 5.1.1 <NoSuchPerson@myown.edu>... User unknown' Double-clicking the error message in Eudora's "Task Errors" tool brings up other nice dialog boxes (which I've never even seen before, showing how many undiscovered features Eudora may still have), but the cause of this error is not one of the unknowns. -- |

A special "feature" in Eudora makes it difficult to copy the error massage and paste it for a supporter :-( But: Can't send to 'xxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dk'. The server gives this reason: '550 5.1.1 <xxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dk> User unknown; rejecting'. The address is just as long as shown. The e-mail address is located on one.com, when the site was located somewhere else, there was no problem. |

The message might also be in the Eudora log file (Eudora.log) if logging is turned on; at any rate, I also hand-typed the message I previously posted, as it seemed worth typing this short thing to help diagnose the error (if it's not worth even that, then why bother posting at all?) > But: Can't send to 'xxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dk'. > The server gives this reason: '550 5.1.1 > <xxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dk> User unknown; rejecting'. > The address is just as long as shown. > > The e-mail address is located on one.com, when the site was located > somewhere else, there was no problem. I do not understand what this means, but it sounds as if there's something more than has yet been said, which might possibly be important to understanding what's really happening. -- |

When you send mail using a "web application," the web site uses its own SMTP servers to send the message, whereas when you send mail using any email client that's installed on your own computer, the message is traveling through your own computer and network, possibly through various proxies, to some SMTP server that you have specified, which is then responsible for it. So a better comparison would be with another email client on your own computer, using identical account and SMTP settings. Eudora has never in its history been reported to change the destination email address(es) that you give it, if that's what you are claiming (unless, of course, you type an "address book" name, then the address book information is sent instead). To check for this, turn on "Automatically expand nicknames" under "Miscellaneous" options, then view the message again after it is sent. To get a precise diagnosis, you need to give precise and complete information about what you are doing; otherwise one should be consulting psychics, rather than technical analysts ![]() -- |
