| Recommend that the title be changed to capitalize only the first letter of the name FORTRAN. Just a nit but since the word "forum" is lower cased, it could be argued that it isn't being done as a common practice of upper casing the title. It would appear to be perpetuating the former obsolescent practice of upper casing the name. I very much like the improved, slick cover versus the prior one. I think we can still do better (e.g. full color). You could produce a very appealing magazine-quality document on a home computer nowadays for next to nothing. I suppose there is an ACM template of some sort being followed (I hope it has little relationship to APA format which is about as obsolete as you can get). -- Gary Scott mailto:garylscott@sbcglobal dot net Fortran Library: http://www.fortranlib.com Support the Original G95 Project: http://www.g95.org -OR- Support the GNU GFortran Project: http://gcc.gnu.org/fortran/index.html If you want to do the impossible, don't hire an expert because he knows it can't be done. -- Henry Ford |

I have tried to subscribe a few times in the past, but always failed (can't remember what the ACM site objected to, perhaps not having a US-registered address or US credit card, or maybe that I wasn't already an ACM member). I've also tried to read it via the Athens system which allows UK academics to access a vast number of scientific publications on-line, but the ACM chooses to not make this one available that way. I have access to two university libraries (one a copyright library), but neither of them takes the paper version. I know that I have contributed to Fortran Forum (because the editor has been kind enough to send me a copy of my own text) but as far as I'm concerned, it remains a write-only medium. And I have not yet come across another Fortran user in my own field who has even heard of the publication. :-( -- Clive Page |
