MS Publisher 2000 postscript file shows as Corel Draw 9 application

  1. Default MS Publisher 2000 postscript file shows as Corel Draw 9 application

I saved ("save as) my MS Publisher 2000 file as a postscript (.ps). In
Windows XP Explorer, the file shows as a Corel Draw Essentials 9.0
file with the Corel icon (when I expected to see a .ps file). I cannot
open the file in either Corel or Publisher. I have tried saving with
my HP printer (postscript) and MS Publisher Imagesetter as the
printer--neither gives me the desired .ps file. There are Corel Draw
objects in my Publisher file, but I've used this file many times in my
old Windows 98 environment (with Publsiher 2000 and Corel Essentials
9.0) with no problems. Does anyone know how to solve this problem.
    Thanks,
    Judy

    I guess I can.
The *.PS-Files in your system are connected to Corel Draw. Thus every File with
the ending *.PS gets an Corel Icon.
That does not mean that you can only open it with Corel but that when you
double click it, Corel opens it in interpreted mode.
But of course you could do something other with it like open it in Photoshop,
import in Quark, Distill it or whatever.

E.g. when you want the ps-File get opened with Acrobat, all you have to do is
right click and say "open with" and then you click the Distiller.
If you want to have it distilled every time you double click it AND get the
Acrobat Icon for PS-Files, you have to click "always open with that program" in
    the same dialog.

Windows has no creator Informations like the Mac has. The Icon does not
automatically mean that it was created with this program, but only that it can
get opened with that available program (which is not alway true).
You can define that for every Datatypes Corel is able to import in the
    preferences dialog.
