Linked psd files in InDesign CS - Graphics

This is a discussion on Linked psd files in InDesign CS - Graphics ; Does InDesign CS have issues with linking to .psd's? We had issues previously with InDesign losing links to files but that seemed to resolve itself when we started making sure all filenames were under 32 characters. Any suggestions?...

No problems here. I use PSDs and PDPs from Photoshop all the time.

    Update:
The problems we are having don't happen all the time. The designer
that brought this issue to my attention said she was working in a psd,
that is linked inside an indd, and after saving the psd the indd
updated automatically with the changes she made in the psd - strange.

It certainly is. Why in world anyone would find that strange is way
    beyond me.

I guess I should have been more. I meant 'strange' in the sense that
the problem is strange. Sometimes the indd will update with the
revised psd and sometimes it won't. That's what's strange.

If you edit directly from ID using edit>original, the file will always
update immmediately. If you open the file from Photoshop and save, it
won't update until you close and open the file. The links palette will
show the orange triangle with the ! in it to show you the link needs to
    be updated.

ID doesn't recognize the updated file regardless of how I go about
updating it, unless I change the link, in ID, to a different file then
change it back to the original psd.

This seems to related to how our Windows servers are setup. I can copy
the files to the Mac and everything will work the way it's supposed to.
It's just when I try to work with the files on the server that I run
    into problems.

If your server path is a UNC path, you might try making sure it's a true
drive letter. Some apps don't do well with UNC paths wthout a drive letter.
