Re: 64 bit version of Max - Ready for Prime Time ?
At SIGGRAPH in LA in August of 2005, Autodesk had a demo of 64 bit Max.
At that time, there were more legal disclaimers than what was shown for
a demo. According to an alpha tester I met, Max 64 bit will be ready
for release only after "Vista" has been on the market for 6 months. The
big joke has been that max64 will be ready when MS releases the 1st SP
for XP64.
As for the current 64 bit XP. Max64 uses alot of hooks that are not in
XP64. While it will run, Max64 that is, there is no speed difference
between it and the max 8.
Also, the SIGGRAPH demo was run on a Red Hat installation.
Most of what you will hear is rumor, I consider the info I got to be
rumor as well.
My advice, make use of Max 8 on the dual, it will work great in the
production pipeline.

Re: 64 bit version of Max - Ready for Prime Time ?
What else were they going to run it on. At that time, XP64 couldn't
handle max64 (I still think it can't run it - but that is only rumor).
What I understand they did was just compile the code for a 'stable' 64
bit system. It just happened to be red hat.
