Q: What's the secret to get GIMP 2.4.5 to print... anything at all?

  1. Default Q: What's the secret to get GIMP 2.4.5 to print... anything at all?

    It will only shoot blanks.

    Printer: hp LaserJet 1160
    System.: XP Home (unfortunately)

The workaround is saving the image and use a different app to print.
Nuisance if you only want a preview image on paper, but it works.

Not even "CutePDF Writer" (http://www.cutepdf.com/) gets anything
written on the PDF doc (uses GS under the hood), so it seems to be
something the matter with GIMP. Incompatibility issue, maybe?

TIA for any ideas you might have.

I asked about this some time ago, and discovered that the problem is
with a buggy print.exe module in GIMP. It simply does not print in Windows.

Another workaround is to get the winprint.exe module from GIMP 2.2.17
and put it in the same directory as print.exe, then rename print.exe to
    something not.exe.

The winprint.exe module is *extremely* primitive. You can't position or
scale your image. You must do these things in the image itself.

Thus, it really is better to print in some other application.

That this bug was allowed through boggles the mind.

It does work fine with a HP Color Laser Jet 2500.

As I said before, a solution for this problem will most likely come
from someone who is affected by it and starts to code on GTK+ in order
    to fix it.

If it's about the printer, then it also doesn't work with an HP LaserJet
1100, HP LaserJet P2015, HP DeskJet 5940, HP LaserJet 4100, and an HP
Color LaserJet 5500. PCL or PostScript. Or the Microsoft XPS Document
Writer built into Windows Vista. Dem's a lotta printers dat don't woik!

Kinda sucks for the non-programmers who want to like GIMP but can't fix
    the problem for themselves.

    <snip />

Add the HP Laserjet 1200, HP Color LaserJet 2605, and Oce TDS400
    to that list.

    Thanks for all the input.

It seems there is an issue with how Gimp prints and the HP printers
then. Some HP printers sometimes work, as Mr. Schumacher pointed out,
but for the majority of HP printers, it's a no-can-do result.

I will continue to use other apps for printing, I can live with that,
but I am a tad stumped by the fact that so much work is done and code
is written that concerns printing, and then it's largely defunct on
lots of computers. Oh, well, luckily it's not a vital part of the
    application.

    Thanks again.

Add the HP8750 as another that
    simply won't work.
    Great...
