Best low cost Centrino?

  1. Default Best low cost Centrino?

    hello,

I wonder if there exists a Centrino laptop that has a config close to:

    1. processor clock spped more than 1.4 Ghz
    2. 512 mb of DDR memory
    3. a dvd-rom drive/ cd writer combo
    4. 15" display at 1024x768
    5. Three USB 2.0 ports
    6. A 40 Gb hard drive running at 5400 rpm
    7. Preinstalled 802(g) wireless
    8. windows xp home with the oiginal CD

    i'm on a a sub 1500 $ budget.

Please let me know if I'm too dreamy eyed and this config is way
    beyond my means...(probably is)

    <tap on the shoulder>

some Acer's aren't too far off those specs, but I don't think any have
    5400rpm drives.

Guess I'll have to look for a 4200 rpm drive then. I tried Dell.com's
mix and match approach for a Dell Inspiron 9100. my custom config was:

    Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz HT
512 mb RAM ("free upgrade" from 256)
    15.4" WXGA screen
    60 GB HardDrive
    24x CDROM/CD-RW
128mb ATi Radeon 9700 Mobility 8x graphics (whoa!!)
    802.11 a/b/g wireless
    96 WHr 12 cell battery
Win XP Home and other irrelevant sofware

This monster was all mine for $1579.00. Not bad for a desktop I dare
say but sounded like a guaranteed battery guzzler!

    Still looking....

I myself have just purchased a Centrino laptop - I went for an ACER -
as I have just registered with a website called www.epinx.com - they
have quite a selection of Centrino & P4's. Have a look - hope this
    helps

    Good luck.
